About
This blog is really about two very simple ideas: building relationships and sharing ideas.
Today, there are countless ways you can do this. Maybe you blog. Maybe you use social media. Maybe you talk with your friends at work, or at dinner, or on the phone.
- Building Relationships - I believe that relationships matter - okay, that’s an understatement. I believe that relationships are the most important thing in life. They matter for your personal satisfaction. They impact your dreams. They help you develop your career. That’s why I cover all sorts of topics about building relationships - from using social media tools to communicating with other generations in the workplace and beyond.
- Sharing Ideas - Ideas are a beautiful currency that helps us build relationships. When we share our ideas, we are sharing ourselves. When we share our ideas, we open ourselves up to vulnerability, to authenticity, to criticism, to improvement. It can be a long, difficult, and rewarding process. That’s why I share my insights and adventures into the trials and triumphs of sharing your ideas with the world. Or at least, my little corner of it!
Where did “Personal PR” Come From?
I work in public relations, which is basically a job that’s all about both relationships and ideas. We build relationships with clients, customers, and the media through sharing ideas and information. I wanted to have a blogging metaphor that covered how people could understand those same concepts and apply them to their own lives. So, Personal PR is simply a way of understanding how anyone can build and maintain powerful relationships to transform their life, energize their career, and help make their dreams a reality.
Forget Spin
Personal PR is not about getting press (that’s publicity, anyway). It’s not about spinning a message, building an image, or managing your reputation. It’s about relating in an authentic, fresh, real way with people you encounter - online and off.
So, Here I Am
My name is Tiffany, and I work in corporate communications at one of the world’s largest staffing and human resource services companies. At my day job, I write and research on a wide range of topics - from management and small business ownership to human resources, career development and the world of work. I also do PR and media relations consulting, along with project management and development.
You may know me from my first plunge into blogging at Little Red Suit. You can read some of my classic posts from LRS here at Personal PR. When I launched my blog early in 2007, I struggled with my online professional identity and issues like transparency and authenticity. They don’t say internet years are like dog years for nothing. In the short time I’ve been blogging, I’ve learned so much about building relationships - especially online. That’s why this blog is full of my personal insights and experiences about a variety of topics - from blogging to writing to social media to career development and beyond.
If that sounds like your kind of thing, go ahead and grab a free subscription to get updates anytime I post - which hopefully will be more often than not. (And yes, that’s something I write about, too.)
Right now, when I’m not blogging or at work, I’m probably hanging out with my awesome husband, at band practice, tweaking this blog, writing a guest post, or on Twitter.
I am also a book geek, Dr. Who addict, comic-lover and writer.
